Salad King is a Thai restaurant near Eaton Centre which combines modern décor with traditional, authentic Thai cuisine.
It is among a very small group of Asian restaurants with delicious food, great prices, quick service, without compromising the cleanliness of the dining space.
Wonton Soup. The soup was nicely flavoured (but not overpowered) by cilantro leaves. The wonton dumplings were soft, but not slimy.
Crispy Spring Rolls (top) and Mango Salad (bottom). The spring rolls were good, but had no distinct/standout qualities on their own. However, combined with the sweet and sour sauce, they were great.
The mango salad was very simple, but had great flavours. There was a good mix of sour green mangoes and sweet yellow mangoes. The ingredients were all very crisp and fresh (thank goodness).
Golden Chicken Curry. Although there wasn't anything wrong with the curry, there was no exciting depth of flavour. Most of the flavour came from the slight nuttiness of the coconut milk and the slight sweetness of the onions. In comparison to other Thai dishes, its flavour seemed very bland.
Chicken Thai Islamic Noodles (available in chicken or shrimp). This dish cannot be found on the menu, but has been served in this restaurant for many years; just ask a waiter/waitress for it. The noodles are cooked in a creamy and slightly spicy panang curry sauce. The vegetables provide a slight acidity which permeates the richness of the sauce. This is my favourite dish from Salad King.
