A few days ago, I documented the horrors of a Filipino restaurant's (namely Casa Manila) efforts at serving mediocre desserts. A little less than one month ago, I went to Max's Restaurant in Vaughan, the North American branch of the famous Filipino restaurant franchise. As I look at the "67%" rating on Urbanspoon Toronto, I can only use one word to describe it: sacrilege. How can people rate such a well furnished location with great food in such an obscene manner? Here are a few photos to back up what I'm saying...
Aerial view
Fried Chicken
Kare-kare (meat stewed in a peanut based sauce, mixed with other vegetables)
Filipino Style Spaghetti (starchier spaghetti, bright cheddar cheese on top, sweeter sauce)
Buko Pandan (shaved ice dessert with coconut pieces, pinipig (toasted rice), vanilla ice cream, and pandan flavouring)
Halo-halo (shaved ice, vanilla ice cream, mixed fruits and jellies, leche flan, and pinipig (toasted rice))
Don't the pictures of the food above look good? That's because they are. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but in a restaurant with a really clean, well furnished location, an assorted variety of delicious foods, accompanied with friendly service, 67% is an unreasonable overall rating. It seems like competing Filipino restaurants were jealous and sabotaged Max's' Urbanspoon rating... But I'm not trying to promote any conspiracy theories. :)
The bottom line is: Max's is a good restaurant, and you should go there! =)
